RESOLUTION 02-57

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION FOR THE STATE OF ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FY2003 MINI-GRANT PROGRAM FOR THE PURCHASE OF A ZAMBONI ICE RESURFACING MACHINE.

 

            WHEREAS the State of Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development Mini-Grant Program provides funding for economic development projects; and

 

WHEREAS, the Homer Hockey Association has received grants through the Capital Matching Grant and USDA programs and through fund raising for construction of a new ice rink; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Economic Development District completed an economic impact study of ice rinks in 1996 showing that this type of facility can provide $200,000 to $400,000 in revenues to local economies; and

 

WHEREAS, the Homer Hockey Association is requesting funding through the Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development Mini-Grant program to purchase a used, re-conditioned Zamboni ice resurfacing machine to maintain the ice rink; and

 

WHEREAS, proper operation of an indoor ice rink requires a Zamboni to maintain a clean and even skating surface;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the City of Homer supports the application for the State of Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development FY2003 Mini-Grant program for the purchase of a Zamboni ice resurfacing machine.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council on this 23rd day of September 2002.
