A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER ALASKA
AMENDING THE STREET AND HOUSE NUMBERING PLAN TO PROVIDE THAT AREAS ANNEXED TO
THE CITY AFTER 1 JANUARY 2000 WILL USE THE KENAI PENISULA BOROUGH LOT
NUMBERING STREET ADDRESSING SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, The City has recently
annexed a large area containing over 1500 residents which are using the Kenai
Peninsula Borough lot numbering street addressing system; and
WHEREAS, To achieve a system
compatible with Geographic Information System requirements for use of the 911
emergency telephone system the lot/house numbers have been changed a number of
times, causing substantial inconvenience to the residents; and
WHEREAS, Electronic/computer systems
used in emergency response have the ability to accurately direct emergency
vehicles to the proper location; and
WHEREAS, At the present time Homer
has a unified fire and ambulance response system and Homer police respond to
most calls in the area; and
WHEREAS, Borough GIS and 911
officials, Homer Fire and Police Chiefs, the Homer City Manager, and the Homer
Postmaster all have no objection to retaining the Borough numbering system; and
WHEREAS, Homer City Code Chapter
11.12 provides for a different number system, but allows amendment by
resolution; and
WHEREAS, Extension of the City
system would cause confusion and inconvenience for no purpose.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the
City Council that the Street and House Numbering Plan is hereby amended to
provide that areas annexed to the City after January 1, 2000 will use the Kenai
Peninsula Borough lot numbering street addressing system.
