RESOLUTION 03-07

 

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA SUPPORTING A GRANT APPLICATION FOR $123,000.00 BY THE SOUTH PENINSULA BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION INC, DBA COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER & PRIDE PROGRAM, TO REPLACE AGING VEHICLES AND PURCHASE AN ADDITIONAL CAR FOR TRANSPORTING CLIENTS.

            WHEREAS, The South Peninsula Behavioral Health Association, Inc., dba Community Mental Health Center & PRIDE program is seeking a grant of $123,000 from the State of Alaska, Department of Transportation & public Facilities, FTA Section 5310, Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority Capital Grant Program to replace its aging vehicles and to purchase an additional car to aid in serving its clients; and

 

            WHEREAS, Transportation provided by the South Peninsula Behavioral Health Association, is an essential service for the clientele served by this program; and

 

            WHEREAS, The community health center currently maintains three vans ranging from five to ten years of age and having traveled over an average of 100,000 miles each; and

 

            WHEREAS, The vans are used to transport clients to treatment services, rehabilitation services, transportation to group home residence, shopping, and to attend community events; and

 

            WHEREAS, The PRIDE Program serves over 90 consumers and has a 15-passenger van with a wheelchair lift, which is used by 9 of the program participants, 5 of whom have no access to other vehicles with wheelchair lifts; and

 

            WHEREAS, The grant application process requires a resolution of support from the local governing body.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council supports  application for a grant in the amount of $123,000.00  by the South Peninsula Behavioral Health Association Inc., dba, Community Mental Health Center and Pride Program to replace aging vehicles and purchase an additional car for transporting clients.
