RESOLUTION 03-103

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE

KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

DISTRICT’S APPLICATION FOR A MINI-GRANT FOR

TOURISM RESEARCH.

 

            WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District (KPEDD) is recognized by the State of Alaska as the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Regional Development Organization; and

 

            WHEREAS, the KPEDD’s mission is to promote and foster economic development programs and activities on the Kenai Peninsula; and

 

            WHEREAS, economic development is creating an environment that stimulates private sector investment to create or sustain employment; and

 

            WHEREAS, KPEDD facilitates community forums to bring the stakeholders together to discuss priorities and issues regarding economic development; and

 

            WHEREAS, at the 2002 KPB Outlook Forum, stakeholders within the tourism industry asked KPEDD to assist the industry with research and cooperative marketing, and the consensus at the forum was that tourism is an increasingly important sector of the economy but needs support especially since the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01; and

 

            WHEREAS, after the Outlook Forum, KPEDD held three mini-summits in Homer, Seward, and Soldotna as well as a regional summit for the tourism industry to ascertain the issues and goals for the industry; and

 

            WHEREAS, again there was unanimous agreement recognizing the need for tourism research specific to the Kenai Peninsula to aid businesses with marketing and other operational decisions; and

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Homer City Council that the City of Homer fully endorses KPEDD’s application for mini grant funds to conduct tourism research.
