A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING OPTION B1 PLAN, THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE KACHEMAK BAY ADVISORY BOARD PLAN B1 FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE KACHEMAK BAY CAMPUS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA

 

WHEREAS, The Municipality of Homer Alaska supports the expansion of the Kachemak Bay Campus (KBC); and 

 

WHEREAS, A three million dollars in GO Bonds were let by the State of Alaska for the expansion of the KBC; and

 

WHEREAS, The expansion of the KBC is necessary to begin to meet the growing needs of the community of Homer, Alaska; and

 

WHEREAS, This expansion will provide an increase of 8553 gsf. of floor space to the current 8064 gsf. of floor space; and

 

WHEREAS, The increase of nearly 2.5 acres to the KBC will start to provide adequate parking and future space for continued expansion; and

 

WHEREAS, The administration of the Kenai Peninsula College has reviewed these plans and agrees with this selection; and

 

WHEREAS, This plan should have the following effect:

l.          The plan provides optimum utilization of resource.

2.         The plan accommodates current programs.

3.         The plan possesses functional efficiency, and minimizes operational costs.

4.         The plan creates a collegiate image, public convenience, and makes a positive contribution to the community.

5.         The plan provides for future growth and is compliant to the constraints of the budget.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Homer, Alaska concurs with this plan which has been chosen and encourages the Regents to approve it as well; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be sent to the University of Alaska Chancellor, the Commissar, the Board of Regents, the Kenai Peninsula Director and the  Kachemak Bay Campus Director.

City of Homer

 

                        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby wishes to grant the University of Alaska the right of first refusal on the sale of the current Homer City Hall and property and authorizes the City Manager execute the appropriate documents.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 25th day of August, 2003.
