A Resolution Of the City Council of
Homer, Alaska Determining the Site of the New City Library And Authorizing
Negotiation for the Land Purchase
WHEREAS, The existing library facility is not of an adequate size to serve
the community’s needs; and
WHEREAS, The Homer Library Advisory Board has
determined that a combination of remodeling and expansion of the existing
building is not feasible; and
WHEREAS, The City Administration has examined
several sites within the City and submitted a recommendation to the City
Council; and
WHEREAS,
The Town Square Task Force has also recommended the Petro Marine site, which as
the library site can serve as a nucleus and catalyst for adjacent ‘town square’
design and development; and
WHEREAS,
Petro Marine has indicated that the land is available for purchase by the City
of Homer;
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council determines that the Petro
Marine site is to be designated as the preferred site for the new library; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLED, that the City enter into negotiations with Petro Marine for
the purchase of the property and that the City Council be given the opportunity
for final approval or disapproval of the purchase price.
