A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC
FACILITIES HOMER AIRPORT MASTER PLAN PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE PRESENTED AT THE DECEMBER 4th PUBLIC MEETING IN
HOMER, ALASKA.
WHEREAS, A Public Meeting was held for the Homer Airport Master Plan listing several short term development projects on December 4, 2003 in Homer,
Alaska; and
WHEREAS, Public comment identified the following needs for the Homer Airport;
1. Urgent need for a dock at Beluga Lake with the capability to house rescue equipment. Construction of a haul out access road and transient float plan parking.
2. Parallel taxiway.
3. Need for public amenities within airport (restrooms, phones, informational areas).
4. Cargo apron separate from commercial passenger areas.
5. Current noise level study of airport and surrounding areas.
6. Need for careful review prior to placing fill in wetland areas.
7. Need for review of reserved location for a control tower in light of fill required and its current use
WHEREAS, Lack of road access between the lake and the airport creates significant problems for float plane operators, including lack of fuel
availability, difficulty of routine maintenance, and difficulty in moving planes in the Spring and Fall when switching from floats to wheels;
WHEREAS, the City of Homer appreciates and supports the efforts of DOT to fund these improvements, therefore eliminating existing public safety issues
and enhancing the economic development of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Homer, Alaska that the City Council supports the Alaska Department of
Transportation and Public Facilities Homer Airport Master Plan Preferred Alternative presented at the December 4th Public Meeting in Homer, Alaska and
urges ADOT/PF to carefully consider and incorporate the comments and recommendations presented above.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council on this 15th day of December, 2003.
