RESOLUTION 03-21

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA NAMING FOR CLARIFICATION SECTIONS OF A PUBLIC WAY KNOWN AS BEACH ROAD, AIRPORT BYPASS ROAD, AND KACHEMAK BAY DRIVE TO KACHEMAK DRIVE IN ORDER TO RETAIN CONTINUOUS RECOGNITION OF THE STREET FROM THE INTERSECTION OF HOMER SPIT ROAD AND KACHEMAK DRIVE TO THE POINT OF TERMINATION AT EAST END ROAD (PROPOSED EAST ROAD).

 

            WHEREAS, Kenai Peninsula Borough Ordinance 92-90 establishes a uniform street naming system within the Kenai Peninsula Borough; and

 

            WHEREAS, said ordinance states that street names adopted by action of an incorporated city within the Borough shall be recognized on the official street name map; and

 

            WHEREAS, more than one street name is detrimental to the public interest; and Kachemak Drive is sometimes known as Kachemak Bay Drive, Airport Bypass Road and Beach Road, and

 

            WHEREAS, the Homer Planning Department maintains street address files for all City streets and Kachemak Drive is the only name on file for that road; and

 

            WHEREAS, the City of Homer annexed the area served by Kachemak Drive to the termination at East End Road (Proposed East Road); and

 

            WHEREAS, on December 4, 2002 a public hearing was held by the Homer Advisory Planning Commission  to address all concerns about the proposed street name and all adjoining property owners were notified;

 

            NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Homer City Council recognizes Kachemak Drive as the name for the road starting at Homer Spit Road and ending at East End Road (proposed East Road) and requests that be so designated on the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s official street name map.

 

            PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL this 10th day of February, 2003.
