RESOLUTION 04-52

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA AWARDING THE ART PROJECT FOR THE NEW HOMER PUBLIC LIBRARY TO MOOSERUN METALSMITHS, LYNN NADEN, PAUL DUNGAN, LISA KREBS, TAMARA SCHMIDT, AND SUSAN CUSHING IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $40,000.00 AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS.

WHEREAS, The Request for Proposals to incorporate art into the New Public Library was advertised in the Homer News on March 25 and April 1, 2004, posted on the City Clerk's internet site and sent to an instate Plans Room; and

WHEREAS, The there were twenty six sealed proposals received; and

WHEREAS, The selection committee with assistance from the Public Arts Committee reviewed and evaluated the proposals with the following having been selected; and

Entry doors with Sandhill Crane imagery by Mooserun Metalsmiths.

Wall-mounted ceramic relief mural in the children's library depicting Sandhill Cranes flying in an upward spiral by Lynn Naden with children collaborating for the mosaic background.

Tree trunk "story grove" in the children's library by Paul Dungan.

Three steel and fabric upholstered "nest" seats in the windows of the children's library by Lisa Krebs.

Suspended, hanging bent alder Sandhill crane sculptures by Tamara Schmidt for the main library.

Sandhill Crane Bike Rack by Lisa Krebs.

Wall space in the main library utilized for rotating exhibits of art, selected by a panel of community volunteers.

"Just Imagine" image that has been a logo for the library campaign, designed by Susan Cushing (this will be built into the structure of the library at no additional cost to the art budget).

WHEREAS, This award is not final until notice is received by each of the proposers from the City of Homer.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Homer, Alaska hereby awards the Art Project for the New Homer Public Library to Mooserun Metalsmiths, Lynn Naden, Paul Dungan, Lisa Krebs, Tamara Schmidt, and Susan Cushing in a total amount not to exceed $40,000.00 and that the City Manager is hereby authorized execute the appropriate documents.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 25th day of May, 2004.
