RESOLUTION 04-67

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HOMER APPROVING THE COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF HOMER, THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH, AND THE KENAI PENINSULA ARCTIC WINTER GAMES 2006 HOST SOCIETY, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS.

WHEREAS, The Kenai Peninsula Borough (KPB) submitted a bid to the Arctic Winter Games International Committee (the International Committee) to host the 2006 Arctic Winter Games; and

WHEREAS, Representatives from City of Homer assisted in the planning and preparation of the bid document submitted to the International Committee, and the bid document proposed that several sporting and cultural events would be conducted within the City of Homer; and

WHEREAS, The International Committee awarded the bid to host the 2006 Arctic Winter Games (games) to the KPB and entered into an agreement with KPB that was executed April 16, 2003; and

WHEREAS, As a part of the bid to host the 2006 Games the KPB, as required, formed the Host Society to prepare and fundraise for, manage, and stage the 2006 Games; and

WHEREAS, The parties agree that at least one member of the Board of Directors of the Host Society shall include the Mayor or designee from the City of Homer; and

WHEREAS, The City of Homer, as a First Class General Law Municipality, has the authority to sponsor sporting events, provide for economic development and the use of municipal property; and

WHEREAS, The City of Homer has facilities for the use in support of the effort to prepare for, manage and conduct the 2006 Games.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby approves the Cooperative Agreement by and between the City of Homer, the KPB, and the Kenai Peninsula Arctic Winter Games 2006 Host Society and that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the appropriate documents.
