A
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA RENAMING COWLES WAY TO HIDDEN
WAY WITHIN THE CITY OF HOMER IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE ENHANCED 911 STREET
ADDRESSING PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, A method has been developed to implement the Enhanced 9-1-1 Street Addressing project; and,
WHEREAS, Streets within the Emergency Service Number (ESN) area must be easily understood when spoken; and,
WHEREAS, Cowles is not clearly understood when spoken and frequently misspelled, and
WHEREAS, Several property owners living on the street have petitioned for a change in name; and,
WHEREAS, A public hearing notice was mailed to surrounding property owners within three hundred feet of Cowles Way; and
WHEREAS, On November 17, 2004 a public hearing was held by the Homer Advisory Planning Commission to address all concerns about the proposed street name change; and,
WHEREAS, The Homer Advisory Planning Commission discussed the proposed name change at the November 17, 2004 regular commission meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Homer, Alaska that the following street is renamed as follows:
“Cowles Way” within Webber Subdivision to be named “Hidden Way”.
And that staff is requested to
come up with a list of the appropriate public facilities to name for Mr. Cowles (first Mayor of Homer).
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of Homer, Alaska this 28th day of February, 2005.
