A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING EXTENSION OF THE SUNSET PROVISION APPLICABLE TO REEMPLOYMENT OF RETIRED MEMBERS OF THE TEACHERS’ RETIREMENT SYSTEM AND THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES’ RETIREMENT SYSTEM.

            WHEREAS, in 2001 the Alaska Legislature enacted HB242 which amended the statutes to allow certain Public Employees (PERS) and Teacher’s Retirement System (TRS) members who retired with a normal retirement to return to work, continue to receive normal retirement benefits, and waive further participation in the retirement systems, and;

WHEREAS, the City of Homer currently has four employees participating in the program, and;

WHEREAS, the program has provided the city with qualified experienced personnel that would not otherwise be available and provided a substantial savings in training costs.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the City of Homer supports extension of the sunset provision applicable to reemployment of retired members of the Teachers’ Retirement System and the Public Employee’s Retirement System.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council on this 29th day of March 2005.
