RESOLUTION 05-64
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA SUPPORTING FULL TIME STAFFING
OF THE BOROUGH HOMER OFFICE.
WHEREAS, The City of Homer, local and area wide employees and citizens, local and area wide businesses and
tourists value the services of the Borough Homer Office; and
WHEREAS, This office is of benefit to many of the City's Departments and Divisions including Public Works,
Planning and Zoning, City Clerk's Office, Port and Harbor and Administration; and
WHEREAS, Real estate agents, Surveyors and Engineers have expressed much appreciation for the services of
the office and its accessibility and hours; and
WHEREAS, Most City Offices are open 8 a.m to 5 p.m. and many businesses are open 8 or 9 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m.
and the essential Borough services are needed during those hours and at least Monday through Friday; and
WHEREAS, The Planning and Zoning Division and City Clerk's Office forwards callers and customers to the
Office on a regular basis; and
WHEREAS, Homer Planning and Zoning reports the following:
1. Prior to the Borough establishing an office in Homer, the Planning Department spent one-third to one half of its time assisting individuals with Borough issues.
2. Non City property questions are more readily answered due to the Borough Homer Office - such as GIS mapping, property ownership and property location These customers request, need and want this information during and through out all business days and hours.
3. Shortening the office hours would negatively impact the public and City Planning Department; and
WHEREAS, The Kachemak City Clerk relayed her appreciation for the absentee voting services provided by the
Homer Borough Office and the other services provided; and
WHEREAS, Several City and area wide citizens have voiced a desire for increased services at the Borough
Homer Office such as providing for property taxes and sales taxes to be paid at the Homer Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Homer, Alaska herebysupports full time
staffing of the Borough Homer Office.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 24th day of May, 2005.
