RESOLUTION 05-72
A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE NAMING OF THE FISHIN'
HOLE LOCATED ON THE HOMER SPIT AS THE NICK DUDIAK FISHING LAGOON.
WHEREAS, Nick Dudiak was a resident of Homer from 1977 to 2005 with an outstanding record of public
and community service; and
WHEREAS, Nick Dudiak served as a fisheries biologist for ADF&G from 1977 through his retirement in
1996; and
WHEREAS, Nick Dudiak provided the leadership in the establishment and management of the Fishin' Hole; and
WHEREAS, Under Nick Dudiak's leadership, the Fishin' Hole provided extensive new fishing opportunities
and reduced pressure on native runs in nearby rivers; and
WHEREAS, Under Nick Dudiak's leadership, the Fishin' Hole gained national attention and became
destination site for many fishermen thereby increasing the economic benefit to Homer: and
WHEREAS, Under Nick Dudiak's leadership, the Fishin' Hole earned the Sportfish Management Award
presented in 1990 by the American League of Anglers and Boaters for the best enhancement project in the
nation; and
WHEREAS, Nick Dudiak was recognized for his efforts to educate youth and adults about fishing, hunting,
the outdoors, and environmental conservation; and
WHEREAS, Nick Dudiak helped organize the Youth Fish Fair, gave many presentations to the South
Peninsula Sportsman's Association and gave seminars at the Great Alaska Sportsman's Show; and
WHEREAS, Nick Dudiak volunteered many hours above and beyond his work schedule to accomplish the
above; and,
WHEREAS, Nick Dudiak provided the leadership to establish special trolling zones to protect native Chinook
runs in lower Peninsula rivers; and
WHEREAS, In 1988 Nick Dudiak received the Governor's Award in recognition of his work for the State and
the people of Alaska; and

WHEREAS, In 1990 Nick Dudiak received the Meritorious Service Award from the Alaska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Nick Dudiak was named the outstanding citizen in Homer for 1996 to recognize him as
an individual who has continued to serve and volunteer immeasurably to a variety of organizations in Homer; and
WHEREAS, His friends, sport fishermen, and community members of Homer wish to recognize and honor
these and Nick Dudiak's many other contributions to the Homer community and Alaska's fishery resources in perpetuity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fishin' Hole on the Homer Spit be named the Nick
Dudiak Fishing Lagoon; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate sign be created and installed at City expense honoring
and memorializing this man and his legacy to the community of Homer, Alaska, and Alaska's sport fisheries.
