RESOLUTION 06-107
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA SUPPORTING THE
KACHEMAK BAY EQUESTRIAN ASSOCIATION'S QUEST FOR GRANT MONEY FOR
THE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF AN EQUESTRIAN PARK.
WHEREAS, The Kachemak Bay Equestrian Association (KBEA) has been conducting a survey
of the Homer Community regarding specific interests in biking, hiking, dogs, horses, llamas,
alpacas, picnics and skiing; and
WHEREAS, The KBEA is working hard to acquire a piece of land for the purpose of an
Equestrian Park to provide a location for a variety of activities including those activities
particularly involving horses and other animals; and
WHEREAS, The Equestrian Park, Cottonwood Horse Park, is planned to be located adjacent to
East End Road and could be used as a recreational trail head with access to hiking trails and the
separated pedestrian and bike pathway along East End Road; and
WHEREAS, Many Homer City residents and area residents have expressed interest in and/or have requested that there be some type of Equestrian Park in Homer as there once was; and
WHEREAS, Many Homer area residents routinely travel over 100 miles round trip, to the
closest locations, to attend single events that are equestrian and canine related; and
WHEREAS, A multi purpose Equestrian Park would benefit the economy of Homer with
multifaceted events, workshops and other training sessions; and
WHEREAS, This type of Equestrian Park would complement the Jack Gist Park, a short
distance southward of the proposed location for the Equestrian Park; and
WHEREAS, An Equestrian Park provides a better location for working with horses and other
animals than any regular park.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Homer, Alaska does hereby
support the Kachemak Bay Equestrian Association's quest for grant money for the design and
development of an Equestrian Park.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 14th day of August, 2006.
