RESOLUTION 06-33

 

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTING AND EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE CITY OF HOMER AND KACHEMAK CITY COMMUNITY WILDFIRE PROTECTION PLAN.

 

            WHEREAS, Protecting the community against the danger of wildfire is one of the top priorities of the Homer City Council, and

 

WHEREAS, The Kenai Peninsula Borough, through its Spruce Bark Beetle Program, has prepared a Draft City of Homer and Kachemak City Community Wildfire Protection Plan dated January, 2006, and

 

WHEREAS, The Plan is comprehensive and includes sections on the community planning process, wildfire risk assessments, local preparation and firefighting capacity, community priorities, an action plan, and interagency cooperation agreements, and

 

WHEREAS, The Core Planning Team included Chief Bob Painter and representatives from the Borough, Kachemak City, State and Federal Agencies, and the community at large, and

 

WHEREAS, A number of community planning meetings were held in Homer in late 2005 and early 2006, and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council has reviewed the Plan and Chief Painter recommends approval.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Homer City Council hereby accepts and expresses support for the City of Homer and Kachemak City Community Wildfire Protection Plan and authorizes the City Manager to execute the appropriate documents.

 

PASSED AND APPROVED by the Homer City Council this 28th day of March, 2006.
