RESOLUTION 06-42
A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL APPROVING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS WITH LEO VAIT AND PAUL ROURKE FOR ART AND ASSOCIATED CONSTRUCTION AT THE NEW HOMER PUBLIC LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, The City of Homer solicited proposals for art in the new Homer Public Library pursuant to HCC 18.07 in March of 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Homer Public Arts Committee reviewed and rated the proposals received and made recommendations to the Council in a Memorandum dated May 19, 2004; and
WHEREAS, The City Council approved a list of proposed art projects via Resolution 04-52 which was adopted on May 25, 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Public Arts Committee also reviewed and endorsed as alternatives a circulation desk which incorporated art in the counter top and a fireplace enhanced with a rock hearth; and
WHEREAS, These projects were set aside and never formally approved by the Council due to funding limitations that existed at the time; and
WHEREAS, Funding for the fireplace was recently provided by the Rasmuson Foundation and the United States Department of Agriculture; and
WHEREAS, Funding for the circulation desk has been provided in part by a legislative grant and through budget cuts in other areas; and
WHEREAS, Price quotes for circulation desks of similar size and design were solicited; and
WHEREAS, Time is of the essence and contracts for these projects need to be approved so that they can be efficiently assimilated into on-going construction activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby approves contracts with Leo Vait and Paul Rourke in the amounts listed below and authorizes the City Manager to execute the appropriate documents:
$25,000 Fireplace (Vait)
$12,500 Circulation Desk Counter Top (1% for Arts Funding) (Vait)
$23,500 Circulation Desk (Rourke)
