RESOLUTION 06-55

 

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA TO NAME THE CHILDREN’S ROOM OF THE NEW HOMER PUBLIC LIBRARY IN MEMORY OF THE LATE JOY GRIFFIN.

 

           

            WHEREAS, Joy Griffin was instrumental in starting the Children’s Story Hour, recruiting community members to come read to the preschool children and promoting reading and use of the library by children; and

 

            WHEREAS, Joy Griffin organized the publishing of Earthquake 1964, Where Were You?, and founded the “Top Drawer Collection”, and award winning collection of original manuscripts by local authors; and

 

WHEREAS, Because of her work the Friends of the Homer Library received a $10,000 grant from Friends of the Library, USA, for the purchase of books for the library; and

 

WHEREAS, Joy Griffin shared the dream of a new, larger library with space dedicated to children’s use.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Children’s Room of the new Homer Public library be named in memory of Joy Griffin.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 22nd day of May, 2006.
