RESOLUTION OF THE
WHEREAS, The potential for wildland fire this spring and summer on the lower Kenai Peninsula remains high and the Homer area contains one of the most extensive rural / wildland interfaces in the Borough; and
WHEREAS, Although the fuel load may have changed due to recent wildland fires, the fire danger has not diminished because fire in grassland spreads more quickly; and
WHEREAS, Large stands of dead spruce trees still remain in areas close to homes and subdivisions; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, the Division of Forestry deployed two fire engines, two full crews, and a supervisor to the Homer office; and
WHEREAS, The Homer Volunteer Fire Department recommends that State firefighting capacity in the Homer office be maintained at the 2007 level or higher due to the threat of wildfire on the lower Peninsula.
