RESOLUTION 08-82(A)

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, EXPRESSING ITS INTENT TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT WITH THE FIRM OF BIRCH, HORTON, BITTNER AND CHEROT TO PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES TO THE CITY OF HOMER.

 

            WHEREAS, The firm of Perkins Coie has provided legal services to the City of Homer for the past twenty years; and

 

            WHEREAS, Primary City Attorney Gordon Tans has announced his retirement and will no longer be providing legal services to the City effective in mid-August; and

 

            WHEREAS, The City Council has engaged in a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) process to select a new City Attorney and legal team; and

 

            WHEREAS, The Council evaluated and rated proposals from legal firms and its Special Meeting on July 14 and it interviewed short-listed firms at a Special Meeting on July 28.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council finds that the firm of Birch, Horton, Bittner and Cherot is best suited to meet the legal needs and requirements of the City of Homer.

 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council hereby expresses its intent to enter into a contractual agreement with Birch, Horton, Bittner and Cherot to provide legal services to the City based upon the terms and conditions presented in the firm’s proposal; and

 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorizes the City Manager to finalize a formal contract for consideration and approval at the regular meeting on August 11, 2008.

 

            PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 28th day of July, 2008.
