RESOLUTION 09-03

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, ENDORSING THE CLIMATE COMMUNITIES CLIMATE ACTION BLUEPRINT FOR THE NEW PRESIDENT AND 111^TH CONGRESS.

WHEREAS, The City of Homer Climate Action Plan recognizes that efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Homer will be greatly assisted by policy changes at the borough, state, and federal levels and calls for advocacy efforts to help bring about these policy changes at higher levels of government; and

WHEREAS, The City of Homer is one of more than 350 cities in the United States to join ICLEI–Local Governments for Sustainability; and

WHEREAS, ICLEI has joined with another organization, Climate Communities, to advocate for federal policies that provide resources to empower local communities to effectively address climate change; and

WHEREAS, Climate Communities and ICLEI, working with elected officials from cities around the country, have developed a Climate Action Blueprint for the New President and 11^th Congress, supporting national programs and policies to provide resources for local energy efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy efforts, local economic development strategies to support green jobs, and local readiness to deal with climate impacts; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Homer join with other cities around the country to endorse the Climate Action Blueprint for the New President and 111^th Congress.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 12^th day of January, 2009.
