RESOLUTION 09-115

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE PRATT MUSEUM’S APPLICATION FOR A RECREATIONAL TRAILS GRANT.

 

            WHEREAS, The City of Homer supports the development of a trail and sidewalk network that provides an alternative to driving, provides enhanced recreational opportunities, and creates auto-free connectivity throughout the community, as expressed in the City of Homer Comprehensive Plan and Non-Motorized Transportation and Trail Plan; and

 

            WHEREAS, The Pratt Museum is seeking funding to upgrade and expand its trail system as port of a larger renovation project; and

 

            WHEREAS, The expanded and improved trails on the Pratt Museum’s 9.3 acre property will provide new recreational opportunities to explore this area, learn about natural features, and enjoy outdoor art features; and

           

            WHEREAS, The proposed trails will enhance walkability in the City core, connecting to existing trails and pathways including the Spruceview separated pathway, the trail to Homer Middle School, the pedestrian lane along Fairview Avenue, and the Reber Trail; and

 

            WHEREAS, The proposed Pratt Museum trails will provide ADA accessible recreation opportunities.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council expresses support for the Pratt Museum’s proposed trail development and urges the Recreational Trails grant review committee to recommend funding for the project.                        

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 26th day of October, 2009.
