A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR ESTABLISHING A DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE IN HOMER.

WHEREAS, The District Attorney’s Office for the Kenai Peninsula is located in Kenai, Alaska; and

WHEREAS, The District Attorney has a very large caseload and is not able to devote as much time and resources to Homer area cases as is optimal; and

WHEREAS, The City of Homer has experienced a significant increase in criminal activity over the past year and the community is looking for ways to address the problem; and

WHEREAS, Establishing a District Attorney’s Office here could serve to increase the number of cases prosecuted and increase the number of convictions; and

WHEREAS, A locally based District Attorney could provide a more convenient and accessible resource to law enforcement officers and assist with the timely drafting of search warrants, affidavits, and other relevant documents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council finds that establishing a District Attorney’s Office in the community would reduce crime and promote a safe and healthy community.
