A
RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL ESTABLISHING A HEALTH BENEFITS TASK FORCE
TO ADVISE THE CITY ON OPTIONS FOR EMPLOYEE HEALTH BENEFITS RESTRUCTURING AND TO
EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITY OF EXPANDING THE SCOPE OF THE SELF INSURANCE FUND
CONCEPT TO THE GREATER COMMUNITY AS AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TOOL.
WHEREAS,
It is desirable to the City of Homer to offer a strong health benefits package
to its workforce as an incentive to attract and retain a top quality workforce;
and
WHEREAS, The City has a
responsibility to the taxpayers to ensure that their tax dollars are spent
wisely; and
WHEREAS, The City’s current health
benefits package is a significant component of the labor burden formula; and
WHEREAS, Health insurance is a
matter of great importance throughout our economy; and
WHEREAS, Small businesses throughout
our community are struggling to provide health benefits to the workforce; and
WHEREAS, Accessibility to affordable
health insurance could be an incentive to attract business to locate to our
community and help retain existing businesses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that
the City of Homer hereby establishes a Health Benefits Task Force to advise the
City Council on options for health insurance, with a goal of maintaining
affordability and expanding opportunity.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task
force shall include five members of the public appointed by the Mayor and
confirmed by the Council.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task
force shall report its findings to the Council by May 15, 2010.
