RESOLUTION 09-129

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, ENCOURAGING THE INTERNATIONAL PACIFIC HALIBUT COMMISSION TO HOLD ITS ANNUAL MEETING FOR THE YEAR 2012 IN HOMER ALASKA.

WHEREAS, The City of Homer is known as The Halibut Capital of the World; and

WHEREAS, The City of Homer has been the number one port for commercial halibut landings for over a decade; and

 

WHEREAS, The City of Homer is a major port for the guided halibut industry; and

  

WHEREAS, The City of Homer and the local area has many stakeholders who depend on the halibut resource for their livelihood; and 

 

WHEREAS, The City of Homer has available an inventory of visitor lodging and meeting facilities in the winter off season; and  

 

WHEREAS, The International Pacific Halibut Commission annual meeting for the year 2012 is to be located at a site in the United States.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of Homer, Alaska, encourages and invites the International Pacific Halibut Commission to hold its Annual Meeting for the Year 2012 in Homer, Alaska, The Halibut Capital of the World.   

 

             PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 14th day of December, 2009.
