A
RESOLUTION OF THE
WHEREAS, A District Court is presently located in Homer which serves the community and the surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, The City and the Southern Kenai Peninsula area have experienced a significant increase in crime and illegal activities over the past year and the community is looking for ways to address the problem; and
WHEREAS, A Superior Court located in Homer would appear to be justified given the number and seriousness of the Homer area cases that are making their way to the Court System; and
WHEREAS,
A Superior Court would provide many advantages over a District Court for law
enforcement including quicker access to Ex-Parte Orders (protective custody),
quicker action on
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council finds that establishing a
Superior Court with a sitting Superior Court judge in Homer would help to
reduce crime and make Homer and the
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council respectfully requests that the Alaska Court System take the immediate steps necessary to establish a Superior court in the community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council directs that copies of this resolution be provided to the Governor, to the Administrative Director of the Alaska Court System, Senator Stevens, and Representative Seaton.
