RESOLUTION 09-68

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE RELAY FOR LIFE OF HOMER AND THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY TO FIND A CURE FOR CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME. MAYOR.

WHEREAS, The Relay for Life of Homer (RFL) is in the beginning stages of formation and will be an annual event from this day forward; and

 

WHEREAS, The Relay for Life of Homer took place at the Homer High School Track June 12 and 13, 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, The Relay for Life of Homer invited and encouraged the wonderful citizens of Homer and the surrounding area to help with achieving their goal of finding 40 survivors, creating 20 teams and raising $20,000 during the event; and

 

WHEREAS, The courageous and brave souls that joined a RFL team walked during the 20-hour time period by having a member from their team on the track at all times; and

 

WHEREAS, It is the goal of the Relay for Life of Homer to meet and exceed the goal given to them by the American Cancer Society to find a CURE FOR CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME; and

 

WHEREAS, Numerous Homer residents have been diagnosed with cancer recently, affirming the fact that there is a great need for monies to be raised to find a HOPE FOR A CURE; and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council of Homer, Alaska, supports the Relay for Life of Homer toward the cause of finding a CURE FOR CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby expresses support for the Relay for Life of Homer to the cause of the American Cancer Society to find a CURE FOR CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 22nd day of June, 2009.
