A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR A LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND (LWCF) GRANT
FOR KAREN HORNADAY PARK IMPROVEMENTS IN AN AMOUNT UP TO $500,000 AND EXPRESSING
ITS COMMITMENT TO PROVIDE A LOCAL CASH MATCH OF $75,000 IN ADDITION TO IN-KIND
SERVICES.
WHEREAS, Homer’s Karen Hornaday Park is a multi-purpose park encompassing
sports fields, a playground, picnic area, campground, Woodard Creek, and
spectacular views on almost 40 acres and is popular with residents and visitors
of all ages; and
WHEREAS, The park is badly in need of repairs and upgrades, as
described in the Karen Hornaday Park Master Plan adopted by the City Council in
2009; and
WHEREAS, Karen Hornaday
Park improvements are included in the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and
Legislative Request list; and
WHEREAS,
The
Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) can provide up to $500,000 for park
improvements.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer
City Council hereby expresses its support for a Land and Water Conservation
Fund grant application of up to $500,000 to help cover the cost of improvements
to Karen Hornaday Park and authorizes the City Manager to submit the
appropriate documents.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council expresses its
commitment to provide a cash match of $75,000 in addition to in-kind resources
to help meet the grant match requirements.
