RESOLUTION 10-45

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, APPROVING AND ACCEPTING A PROPOSAL FROM BRAD HUGHES TO CREATE A JEAN KEENE MEMORIAL SCULPTURE AND GRANTING PERMISSION TO LOCATE THE SCULPTURE ON CITY LAND ADJACENT TO THE SEAFARER’S MEMORIAL.

 

            WHEREAS, At its regular meeting on April 26, 2010, the Homer City Council heard a presentation and reviewed a proposal from artist Brad Hughes to create a Jean Keene memorial sculpture and locate it on City land adjacent to the Seafarer’s Memorial; and

 

            WHEREAS, The Public Arts Committee reviewed the proposal and recommended approval with the addition of a $1,000 maintenance contribution to the City; and

 

            WHEREAS, Artist Brad Hughes concurred with the Committee’s recommendation of the $1,000 maintenance contribution and stated he will provide maintenance services to the sculpture for the duration of his lifetime; and

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby accepts and approves Mr. Hughes’s proposal to create  a Jean Keene Memorial Sculpture, a copy of which is attached and incorporated herein,  and grants permission for it to be located on City land at the site depicted in the proposal.

 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Council approval is contingent and based upon the terms and conditions contained in the proposal, including, but not limited to design, materials, location, funding, maintenance, and repair.

 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a $1,000 maintenance contribution will be deposited with the City and Artist Brad Hughes will provide maintenance services to the sculpture for the duration of his lifetime.

 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mr. Hughes is requested to coordinate all activities with respect to location and placement of the sculpture with the Homer Public Works Department.

 

            PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 10th day of May, 2010.
