RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, SUPPORTING AND PARTICIPATING
IN THE NATIONAL PHARMACEUTICAL DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2010.
WHEREAS,
Unused
drugs pose a significant public health and safety hazard when these medications
are accidentally or illegally consumed; and
WHEREAS,
Law enforcement agencies throughout the United States are taking a proactive
role in eliminating unwanted and unused pharmaceutical drugs from our
communities; and
WHEREAS,
The Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring a National Pharmaceutical Drug
Take-Back Day on September 25, 2010; and
WHEREAS, The Homer Police Department will participate in National
Pharmaceutical Drug Take-Back Day by offering a local collection site; and
WHEREAS, The collection site will
provide the public with an effective means to dispose of unused pharmaceutical
controlled substances to protect the safety and welfare of the American people
by preventing the diversion of such drugs into either licit or illicit channels
for the purpose of abuse or profit, and developing drug disposal methods that
help prevent contamination of the nation's water supplies; and
WHEREAS, The community is invited to participate in
this one day event by disposing of their unwanted and unused pharmaceutical
drugs at the collection site.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Homer, Alaska, offers
support and participation in the National Pharmaceutical Drug Take-Back Day on
September 25, 2010.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of Homer, Alaska, this 23rd
day of August, 2010.
