RESOLUTION 99-61
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HOMER IN SUPPORT OF THE SOUTH PENINSULA COORDINATED TRANSPORTATION TASK FORCE SEEKING FUNDING FOR A PLANNING AND OPERATIONAL GRANT.
WHEREAS, the southern Kenai Peninsula has a need for affordable handicapped accessible transportation; and
WHEREAS, the South Peninsula Coordinated Transportation Task Force, South Peninsula Hospital, Homer Senior Citizens, Community Mental Health Center, Independent Living Center, Anchor Point Senior Citizens and two cab companies, was established to develop solutions to transportation needs of individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the task force seeks to obtain planning and operational grants to further its efforts to develop a coordinated, affordable transportation system accessible to individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the plan would be to fully evaluate the transportation needs and options for handicapped residents of the southern Kenai Peninsula and to develop a financially feasible plan to meet those transportation needs; and
WHEREAS, future federal and state funding for vehicle purchase, maintenance and other transportation related operations may be contingent on the development of a transportation plan that coordinates the use of available assets among agencies; and
WHEREAS, the South Peninsula Coordinated Transportation Task Force is seeking funding from the Mental Health Trust Authority and the Department of Transportation.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Homer, Alaska
that the City of Homer supports the efforts of the South Peninsula Coordinated Transportation Task Force to obtain planning and operational grants to address the transportation needs of handicapped resident of the southern Kenai Peninsula and encourages the Mental Health Trust Authority and the Department of Transportation to fund this project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to all Kenai Peninsula Borough legislators and appropriate state officials.
