Let the Governor know Homer still needs natural gas
Governor Sean Parnell is preparing his proposed budget now to send to the Legislature. Homer residents may want to voice their thoughts about funding for a local natural gas line.
Last year, the Legislature approved funding for a natural gas line from Anchor Point to Homer and Kachemak City, but Governor Parnell vetoed the entire amount ($10.05 million). Now City officials, Representative Paul Seaton, and others are once again urging the Governor to consider the economic benefits that natural gas would provide to this community and requesting that he include funding for the project in his budget. If he does this, it will virtually assure that the natural gas line will be extended from Anchor Point. For those who hook up to natural gas, heating costs in particular could be greatly reduced as compared to current options
The Governor is working on his budget NOW (September and October). You can voice your opinion by contacting him at
