The Division of Forestry & Fire Prevention issued a Burn Permit Suspension for the Kenai-Kodiak, Mat-Su and Copper Rivers Areas effective at 9:00 am on Saturday June 21st. This is due to increased wildfire activity in the State and the relocation of firefighting resources to Interior Alaska.
A burn permit suspension means no burning of burn barrels, debris piles, or lawn burns on state, municipal and private lands. The suspension applies to permits issued by the division, as well as those issued by boroughs or municipalities.
Campfires smaller than 3ft in diameter for the purpose of warming, cooking, or signaling are still allowed. But please use EXTREME CAUTION to avoid sparking wildfire potential should an ember escape or a fire be left unattended or not completely put out. Keep your warming fire an adequate distance from combustibles and attend the fire until cold to the touch.
Thank you for your compliance and helping Alaska get through the 2025 fire season safely.
