Calendar Date:

Physics of the Fall Equinox, guest speaker Stephanie Cortes

Have you ever wondered why we have seasons or the meaning of solstices & equinoxes and how we even know anything about that?  In this special astrophysics lecture, we will talk about why the sun shines, the dynamics & position of the planets in our solar system, and the meaning of the fall equinox.  Stephanie has a Bachelor’s in Physics and a Master’s in astronomy and teaches Astronomy & Physics at Pima Community College.  She also has fifteen years of theater and circus production experience as one of the founding members of Cirque Roots, a Tucson-based circus production company.  Her recent production, Exist, is an astronomy-inspired circus performance that takes the audience on a journey through the cosmos exploring what it means to be alive and present in the “age of science.”
