INCORPORATING ART INTO FOUR PUBLIC RESTROOMS PROJECT

RE: RECOMMENDATION TO AWARD

BACKGROUND
The members of the Selection Committee reviewed and discussed five proposals. These were submitted in response to an advertised Request for Proposals for artwork to fulfill the 1% for the Arts in accordance with Homer City Code, Chapter 18.07 Funds for Works of Art in Public Places. The committee reviewed the proposals at a meeting on December 13, 27, 2012 and again on January 3, 2013. It was noted during the meeting on December 27, 2012 that the additional funding could be found within the construction budget. The members of the committee have unanimously agreed on the following artists and proposed works of art for the following restroom locations:
1. Joshua Nordstrom, Tierra Tile – Two Sandhill Crane tile murals for the Restroom at WKFL Park in the amount of $4200.
2. Melisse Reichman – Roaming the Land tile Mural and one additional design at the artists discretion for a total award not to exceed $4610 for the restroom at Bartlett and Pioneer Avenue location.
3. Sheila Wyne – Danny J Tile Mural for the End of the Road Park Restroom location in the amount of $5000
4. Sheila Wyne - One selection at the artists discretion for the Deep Water Dock Restroom location in the amount of $5000
RECOMMENDATION
Approve recommendation to award contracts to the artists noted above and authorize the City Manager to execute the appropriate documents.
