SUBJECT: HOMER NATURAL GAS SPECIAL ASSESSMENT DISTRICT OBJECTION STATUS
To date, the City Clerk’s Office has accepted 388 valid objections for the Homer Natural Gas Special Assessment District. For your information the objections have been broken down into the following categories and percentage of objection:
• Costs (to homeowner and/or to the city)- 41%
• Concerns of future gas supply- 14%
• Safety concerns (explosions)- 3%
• People on fixed incomes- 8%
• Rather see renewable energy instead (ie: solar, wind, or tidal)- 10%
• Would like the public to vote- 1%
• Doubts of it really coming to their area- 2%
• Condo owners- 3%
In reviewing Kenai Peninsula Borough Tax Information it appears that 4 percent of people objecting to the SAD own property inside city limits but reside outside city limits and 12 percent live out of state.
The objection period closes on January 25th at 5:00 pm and an updated memorandum that includes the final counts will be provided at the January 28th meeting.
