TO: WALT WREDE, CITY MANAGER
FROM: CAREY MEYER, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
DATE: AUGUST 7, 2013
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF LOT FOR NEW WATER TANK
FUNDING AUTHORIZATION
The 2005 Water and Sewer Master Plan recommended the construction of a water tank near the South Slope Drive/Shellfish Avenue intersection. The City Council authorized acceptance of an EPA grant to design this tank. A design firm has been contracted to design this tank. Construction of this tank would increase the efficiency of the transmission mains and improve the dependability of delivering fire flows below the bluff (core area).
The engineering firm has made recommendations and Public Works has contacted three property owners near this intersection to determine which of the three potential sites could be purchased. The property owner of the lot at the southwest corner of the South Slope Drive/Shellfish Avenue intersection has indicated a willingness to sell. Negotiations are underway.
Attached are drawings showing the potential tank improvement.
RECOMMENDATION: The City Council pass an ordinance amending the 2013 operating budget authorizing funds for the purchase of property using Water Reserve Fund monies in the amount of $70,000.
