Illustrating Alaska: Artists Making Children's Books explores the colorful and intriguing process of illustrating children’s books. The exhibit, curated by Sarah Asper-Smith, highlights the process of four different Alaskan illustrators: Jim Fowler, Evon Zerbetz, Michaela Goade, and Mitchell Watley. Each has a unique perspective on creating illustrations for a children’s book.

Author Talk: Doug Dodd

In honor of Veterans Day, local author Doug Dodd will give a talk about his latest book, Hero Unaware: Letters Home from a Navy Corpsman During WWII. The book presents a collection of letters from his father, who served in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945. This is the story of how a farm boy from Montana ended up at Saipan and Iwo Jima, and the effect his wartime service had on the rest of his life.

Closed on Alaska Day

The library will be closed for Alaska Day on Monday, October 18th. The library will reopen on Tuesday, October 19th at 10:00am.

Meeting of the Bookmobiles

Join BOB the Bookmobile and Anchorage artist Jimmy Riordan’s Alaska Bookmobile for a pro-reading, pro-art event outside the Homer Public Library! Thursday, October 7th at 3pm.

Jimmy Riordan is the current Bookmobile Artist in Residence October 3rd – 10th at the Bunnell Street Arts Center.
