Ordinance 17-09 Fund a Wireless Control System for the High Mast Light Poles at the Harbor

ORDINANCE 17-09

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, AMENDING THE 2017 OPERATING BUDGET BY APPROPRIATING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $30,702.00 FROM PORT AND HARBOR RESERVES TO FUND A WIRELESS CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE HIGH MAST LIGHT POLES AT THE HARBOR.

WHEREAS, A Request for Proposals was advertised for the Homer High Mast Light LED Conversion Project with a total budget amount of $180,000 per Ordinance 16-49 and upon completion of the process the contract was awarded to Puffin Electric, Inc. by Resolution 17-016; and

WHEREAS, While preparing the RFP staff became aware of additional energy savings of up to 20% through a wireless control system that gives options to gradually bring the lights to full power at sundown and reverse order at sunrise, rather than being full off and full on as the current lights are; and

WHEREAS, Staff included an additive alternative in the RFP for the wireless lighting controls and Puffin Electric, Inc. included in their proposal an additional lighting control system and product that has received positive reviews; and

WHEREAS, This investment into lighting controls gives the harbor the ability to capitalize on all the potential savings opportunities for the life of this project.

NOW THEREFORE, The City of Homer Ordains:

Section 1: The FY 2017 Operating budget is hereby amended by appropriating funds in the amount of $30,702.00 from Port and Harbor Reserves to fund a Wireless Control System for the High Mast Light Poles at the Harbor, as follows:
