Brush Cutting: Maintaining Our Roads & Right-Of-Ways

From mid-May until the weather starts to freeze, Public Works conducts the Drainage Improvement Program to re-establish road side ditches and maintain the right-of-way along city roads. By keeping the drainage ditches and right-of-ways clear, we extend the life of roads, improve our level of service and reduce long term maintenance costs.  You can help too!

Calvin & Coyle Trail Closed Temporarily

Kachemak Land Trust closed the Calvin & Coyle trail today, July 6 2017 until further notice as nesting goshawks have been attacking people, six known to date.  They’re pretty aggressive about their nests, so the decision was made to close the trail until the fledglings can fly, probably two weeks.

Your hiking plans foiled?  There are many other trails in the area to choose from! See the map below.  Enjoy, and as always when hiking in the woods or where brush limits your sight ahead, be extra alert to the presence of moose and give them a wide berth.

National Park & Rec Month Highlights Value of Local Parks and Recreation

Summer is here, which means it’s time to get out and play!

July is National Park & Recreation Month, a designation to help highlight the role of recreation in our community.  From providing us places to play, get fit and stay healthy to fostering new relationships and connecting with nature, the City of Homer parks and recreation facilities and Community Recreation programs provide essential services and improve quality of life.
