Public Works will be cutting brush in road right-of-ways citywide as needed to maintain drainage in the ditches and to maintain clear lines of sight.

Work locations on Main Street, Bartlett Street, Hidden Way, Mattox Road and Kachemak Way are being prioritized based on areas with the highest weed and shrub growth and public reports of obstructed visibility.

Join us for a Presentation on Landslide Hazard Mitigation

Living with the possibility of landslides is a reality in many Alaskan communities with steep slopes, including Homer. You are invited to come learn more about

  • what do we know about this hazard locally?
  • how can we find out more about it?
  • what can we do as a community to manage landslide hazards here?

Dr. Brentwood "Hig" Higman of Ground Truth Trekking, Dr. Anna Liljedahl of Woodwell Climate Research Center, and other researchers will present their findings and ideas on how to live more safely in a moving terrain.

HERC Multipurpose Room Temporarily Closed

The Multipurpose Room at the HERC is temporarily closed. The gymnasium at the HERC is still open for use.

The City of Homer (City) has been working with the Alaska Department of Conservation (ADEC) on characterizing the potential hazardous materials within the Homer Education and Recreation Complex (HERC) in order to determine the potential environmental reclamation that may be required in advance of future demolition.
