Shortly after the new school year began at West Homer Elementary this year, work began to complete Soundveiw Avenue sidewalks and other pedestrian safety features to provide our kids a safe route to school. 

The City of Homer is pleased to announce that the project is now nearing completion.

Sidewalk sections have been added between Mulikin Street and Cabana Court, and sidewalks now connect all the way to West Homer Elementary School.  

Attached is the City of Homer's 2018-2023 Capital Improvement Plan, or CIP for short.  

The CIP provides information on capital projects identified as priorities for the Homer community.  The projects included in the City of Homer’s 2108-2023 CIP were compiled with input from the public, area-wide agencies, and City staff, as well as various advisory commissions serving the City of Homer.

A test of the nation-wide Emergency Alert System is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27^th at about 10:20 AM Alaska Time (2:20 PM EDT). This is only a test.  The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is used by Federal authorities to send warnings via broadcast, cable, satellite, and wireline communications pathways.

Thanks to over 378 hours of volunteer work by thirty Homer residents and funds from the HART (Homer Accelerated Road and Trail) Program, there are some new trails to explore at Karen Hornaday Park!  

There's a Woodard Creek Nature Trail, and new access trails along Fairview Avenue and along the park's access road.  

Join the City Parks, Art, Recreation and Culture Advisory Commission Sunday, September 24^th at 2:00 pm at the Karen Hornaday park pavilion near the playground for a Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!

It's that time of the year!  Reserved Stall renewal notices have been mailed out mid-August, second notices are sent mid-September, and are due by Saturday, September 30, 2017.  The Port and Harbor Office will be open that Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Please note the policy regarding stall renewals:

73% of car seats nationwide are not used or installed correctly.  Keep your child safe on every ride by making sure your car seat or booster seat is installed and used properly.  

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on hand Wednesday, September 20^th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Homer Fire Department to help you make sure your child is riding safely.  Learn how to install your car seat for free. Technicians will teach you so that you can always be sure your car seat is used correctly.
