Appreciating Homer's Dispatchers!

With a nod to Throw Back Thursday, here is a photo of Sandy Johnson and Greg McCullough in the old dispatch center at Homer Police Department from about 25 years ago.

Even with much improved communication technology today, dispatchers like Bobby Dash and Communications Supervisor Jona Foct (pictured at left) still need to be able to do five things at once—while questioning a frantic caller, they must type the information into a computer, keep an eye on the jail, see if another caller can be put on hold, and listen to an officer run a plate for a moving violation.  And they do them well!

This week, we honor the women and men who are the first to answer the call. They're the link between our community, our firefighters and our officers when residents need them most. Our dispatchers are an incredible part of the team.

Join us in celebrating our dispatchers; without them we couldn't do our jobs to the best of our ability.
