City offices will be closed on Friday, October 17th in observance of Alaska Day.

Alaska Day is celebrated on October 18th each year and marks the anniversary of the formal transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States in 1867. The formal flag-raising and transfer occurred in Sitka. Alaska’s territorial legislature declared Alaska Day a state holiday in 1917.

City offices will reopen for regular hours on Monday, October 20.
