Federal Funding Secured for the A-Frame Water Transmission Main Project
Great news for our community! Congress has approved federal funding to replace the A-Frame Water Transmission Main Project, which supplies drinking water to the west side of Homer.
The FY2026 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies appropriations bill, passed by the Senate on January 15, 2026, and sent to the President's desk for final approval includes $937,868 for the A-Frame project. We're grateful to Representative Nick Begich and Senator Lisa Murkowski for championing this appropriation, and to Senator Dan Sullivan for his support of Homer's infrastructure priorities. Combined with state and local funds, this federal investment completes the resources needed for this critical upgrade.
This project, a high priority in the City's Capital Improvement Plan, corrects a vulnerability in the City's drinking water supply system. It replaces over 1,200 feet of cast iron water line that has served our community since the 1960s. Over time, the cast iron pipe has become brittle and corroded with age and is located on a steep slope, making it extremely vulnerable to damage from ground movement, slope instability, or seismic activity.
The replacement water line will be larger in diameter and built of high-density polyethylene pipe designed to flex rather than break during ground shifts. A specially engineered anchoring system will keep the line more secure and resistant in the event of slope sloughing, helping to ensure reliable water service and protecting our community's health and safety for generations to come.
We're grateful to Alaska's Congressional Delegation for their continued support of Alaska's communities and their infrastructure needs.
