National Police Week & Peace Officers Memorial Day

Eight Homer Police officers

Sunday, May 11th marked the start of National Police Week.

The City of Homer joins many communities across the United States in thanking and honoring the members of our Police Departments for their care and professionalism. The City appreciates the dedicated service our own Police Department provides to the citizens and visitors of Homer each and every day.

In 1962, as part of National Police Week, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day.  This day is a time to honor the brave law enforcement officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.  Flags will be lowered May 15th in honor and remembrance.
