Thank You Summer Readers!
Summer@HPL 2022 is now over!
Thank you to everyone who "Read Beyond the Beaten Path" and participated in the summer reading program! Together we read 156,414 minutes, attended 70 different summer reading events, and more! Look below for the full stats.
About Summer@ HPL
Summer@HPL is a free, community wide reading program that happens each summer in June and July. All ages welcome! Stay tuned for 2023.
Why Summer Reading?
Summer reading programs are a key way for school age children to prevent “summer slide” in their reading skills. “Summer slide” is a decrease in skills gained during the school year, which can happen over the summer. National studies from Dominican University show that children who participate in public library summer reading programs do better on reading achievement tests in the fall than those who do not. Special thanks to the Friends of the Homer Public Library who raised money for the program and supported our efforts financially and also volunteered at events, ran the book mobile and the story walk. The board and volunteers are great advocates for the library, and provide infinite support. We couldn’t do what we do without them, and our library is grateful to have such a committed group!
