East Hill Road Opens Tonight at 6pm

East Hill Road will open tonight at 6pm. The road has been closed between S. Slope and Willow for deep PPE work since August 1st.

Please be cautious as the work is being done and avoid the area if you can.  If you live in this area, Southcentral Construction Traffic Control Supervisor, Danica High (907-299-3046) has issued the following Public Notice:

Please mind the pilot car signs and traffic control staff, as activities during this time are more dangerous due to heavy equipment.  Thank you.

Water System Flushing Public Notice

Dates and Schedule
Water system flushing started in May and will continue through October 2024. 

Areas Affected
Flushing will be systematically conducted throughout the city, including residential and commercial areas. During this period, please note that your water supply may experience temporary discoloration or a slight drop in pressure.

Div. of Forestry to Suspend Burn Permits Starting May 1 Due to COVID-19

In anticipation of the impacts of COVID-19 on Alaska’s wildland firefighting resources this summer and in an attempt to reduce human-caused fires and limit exposure to firefighters, the Alaska Division of Forestry (DOF) will suspend all burn permits – both small- and large-scale – starting on May 1.

Alaska’s wildland fire suppression agencies need the public’s help more than ever to keep firefighters and communities safe.

Draft 2019 Budget Released

City Manager Koester presented the Draft 2019 budget (attached below) at the October 8 Committee of the Whole meeting.  Public comment is welcome at the October 22nd City Council meeting when the budget ordinance will be introduced.

From mid-May until the weather starts to freeze, Public Works conducts the Drainage Improvement Program to re-establish road side ditches and maintain the right-of-way along city roads. By keeping the drainage ditches and right-of-ways clear, we extend the life of roads, improve our level of service and reduce long term maintenance costs.  You can help too!

To be qualified to vote in an election, you must be registered at least 30 days prior to an election.

Any changes to your voter registration info such as your residence address or political affiliation will also need to be updated 30 days prior to an election.
