National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 27th encourages people to get out and get rid of unused or unwanted prescription medication.

This disposal program is a simple, sensible way to dispose of any un-needed prescription medication -- with no questions asked.  By participating, you are doing your part to reduce the amount of drugs entering the environment or becoming a source of drug abuse in the community.

Drop unused or expired prescription drugs (with personal prescription information removed) at South Peninsula Hospital Training Center, 203 W Pioneer Avenue
(on Pioneer Ave at the bottom of Bartlett Street)
between 10 am & 2 pm, Saturday Oct 27th.
It's free, anonymous and no questions asked.

"Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic,” former acting DEA Administrator Chuck Rosenberg said in a National Drug Enforcement Agency news release following the last drug take back event in April.  During that event, law enforcement agencies across the U.S. collected almost 1 million pounds of unused or expired prescription medication. This is the largest amount collected since the program began in 2010.

According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

“That's why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in — safely and anonymously — a record amount of prescription drugs."

You can help prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
