City of Homer Study to Integrate Green Infrastructure into Stormwater Master Plan

The City of Homer was awarded an Alaska Clean Water Action Grant by the Department of Environmental Conservation to study the benefits of integrating green infrastructure into a stormwater drainage master plan.

Green infrastructure capitalizes on the natural process of water filtration, retention and dispersal in order to control stormwater runoff in an environmentally friendly manner.  Green infrastructure includes things like bioswales, retention basins, permeable pavements and rain gardens.  It's not only environmentally friendly; it can often save money in the long run over the more traditional "gray" infrastructure of storm water sewer systems.

That's just what the City wants to understand.  This project is an initial step for the City of Homer toward stewardship planning and pollution prevention regarding the area’s valuable waters.
